Personally Procured Move (PPM) Program

Getting ready to move with the Personally Procured Move (PPM) program? This government-backed option gives active military members the chance to plan their own move, handle the details, and get reimbursed for the costs.

Once you receive your new assignment, it's a good idea to start thinking about how you'll get your belongings to your next home by the required date. A little planning now can make the whole process go a lot more smoothly.

You can conduct your PPM by:

  • Hiring a moving company
  • Renting portable moving and storage containers
  • Rent a truck of trailer
  • Use your own vehicle and trailer
  • Ship using a small package carrier

Before you start your PPM, make sure you have official orders and get the green light from your Transportation Office. It is recommended to use a mover who is register with the Federal Government. You can find a list of companies on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s website at https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/protect-your-move.

Beware of Rogue Movers

Unfortunately, some movers aren’t what they seem and use scams to steal money or even your belongings. The internet has made it easier for these rogue movers to look legitimate and trick people into trusting them. To avoid a stressful and costly experience, it’s important to know the warning signs and stay informed before you hire anyone.

Warning signs:

  • No physical address
  • Over the phone estimates
  • No contract
  • Very low quote
  • Demands for cash upfront

If you are a military member and taking advantage of the Personal Procurement option for you move, you have come to the right place.  Whether moving across town, across the United States, or anywhere in the world, simply request a free quote from Allied Van Lines and you will be on your way.
