Tucked in the Flint Hills of northeastern Kansas, Manhattan is a pleasant city with a vibrant community. Amid the rolling hills filled with tallgrass, Manhattan is home to the Kansas State University’s Wildcats, from which it draws much of its town spirit. It has also been nicknamed the “Little Apple,” mixing education and entertainment.

According to the 2012 U.S. Census, Manhattan has a population of about 56,000. With the KSU campus in its city limits, the majority of its residents are employed in educational services.

The Kansas weather is not quite as wild as what Dorothy experienced, but residents will still tell you that it varies drastically - from day to day as well as season to season. During the summer, temperatures reach highs of 90s while the winter drops into the teens.

Attractions and activities in Manhattan

The Little Apple offers something for everyone. One of the biggest highlights is the Flint Hills Discovery Center, a massive building that houses exploration exhibits in the cultural, biological and geological history of the Flint Hills - the last standing tallgrass prairie in North America. You can also find the oldest commercial art gallery in all of Kansas called Strecker-Nelson, the Midwest’s largest country music festival at the end of June and the cowboy-crazy Lazy T Ranch.

For the outdoor adventurer, the City Park has pools, trails, splash parks, an ice skating rink and tennis courts. Kids get a kick out of The Sunset Zoo and Kansas State University Insect Zoo as well. If you want to get your heart rate up, check out the Linear Park Trail, a 9-mile trail looping in and out of the city.

You can’t call yourself a true Manhattan resident until you experience a K-State sporting or cultural event. Head to the Billy Snyder Family Football Stadium to get lost in a sea of purple Wildcat pride.

Reviews from kansas Customers

  • The thought this crew was the best that I've ever had out of my four moveswith Allied. The crew was also friendly and professional. The crew really worked good together.
  • I liked how much the coordinator kept me well informed. The moving crew was quick, professional, and efficient. They stayed on schedule. It wasan overall very good experience.
  • I was very satisfied and I've moved twice with Allied. In one case, the driver was left unload the goods.
  • The overall service was fine. There were two workers who illegibly labeled the boxes & made the unpacking difficult. Rayma, one of the workers, did an excellent job however.
  • The friendly nature of the guys and the fact that they got there a dayearly most influenced my rating.
  • The car has some dents. I am extremely satisfied. Apart from the dents in the car everything was very good.
  • The moving experience was great except for the typical lag time in between the move from the beginning to the end of the move.
  • The rep I spoke to over the phone communicated everything well. The driver who del was very conscientious. I asked for boxes the day before and the crew came w/o any. There was nothing to wrap my mirror or my pictures. The delivery driver said he had to
  • As a matter of fact I used Allied in Sept for my moves. Both the movers were just good old boys. They were down to earth and took care of our things. They were very good people. My mom's piano was very precious. It got here fine. The guys seemed like part of the family.
  • We moved thirteen times, and we used various moving services; my husband and I both said that this was the easiest and best move of them all. Everybody was very nice, and we were really pleased.
