Where Do Expats Live in Singapore?

The Lion City is constantly rated as one of the best Southeast Asian countries for expats to move to for work opportunities and standard of living. This city state has one of the lowest crime rates in the world and it is often praised for its cleanliness and efficiency. Expats who wish to make Singapore their home are constantly satisfied with the quality of life that this Asian sovereign nation has to offer so it’s no wonder that many foreigners want to make it their home. If you are moving to Singapore, you are probably busy trying to find the best neighbourhoods for expats to move to.

Here are a few options you should consider when looking for you next home.

Holland Village

This is probably one of the most popular neighbourhoods among expats moving to Singapore. The area has great restaurants, cafés and shops. There is an MRT station nearby so it is easy to get to the Botanic Gardens and Orchard Road.

Orchard Road

If you want to be at the centre of it all, look no further! The Orchard area has everything you need to keep you busy. Shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, cinemas, nightclubs and more are at your doorstep. You will pay a premium for living in this area but it comes with plenty of public transport options.

Tanglin

If you are moving to Singapore and expecting to live in a prestigious area, then Tanglin is for you. There are many embassies here and various types of properties available, not just high-rises. There is easy to access Orchard Road and the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) from here.

River Valley

River Valley is another popular location between Orchard Road and the river. Here you can find high-rise condominiums as well as some conservation houses. Restaurants, cafes and other amenities are only a short walk away. It is also well-connected by public transport, while Fort Canning Park is just around the corner.

Serangoon and Braddell

The French School and Australian International School are located nearby, so families with school-aged children like to live in these areas. Here you can find spacious homes as well as condominiums. There are great transport links, so you can easily get to the CBD.

Bukit Timah in Central Region

This is another good choice for expats moving to Singapore due to the international schools and social clubs nearby. The Japanese Association, Hollandse Club and British Club are all close-by. There is a community feel to this area and there are plenty of green spaces in the vicinity.

Woodlands

If what you desire is space, Woodlands is the right area for you. There is a large American expat community here due to the location of the Singapore American School. Shopping centres, restaurants and cinemas are all abundant here.
