Moving with Pets in Singapore

No matter whether they’re furry, feline or fishy, an animal companion is often considered an important member of your family. If even the mere thought of leaving behind your treasured pet is not an option, there are Singapore removalist companies that specialise in pet moving.

If you’re moving house to a new Singapore neighbourhood that is alien to you, a familiar companion may help with the transition to new premises, workplaces or schools. One of the main benefits is that pets can help reduce stress and anxiety. Depending on the animal, they can also help us socialise to meet new friends and dogs are a great excuse to exercise. Pets are an integral part of many people’s lives and it is important to consider their needs during the move. When planning your relocation in or to Singapore, take some time to prepare your pet for what lies ahead.

Up-To-Date Documentation

Cats and dogs are the most common form of family pets and can be the ones most impacted by a move to a new home. Whereas your favourite koi carp isn’t likely to escape from its tank or a canary from its cage, a cat or dog – depending on the dwelling – can sometimes find ways to wander off. Therefore, constantly reassuring your pet and checking on them is the best way to avoid this issue. Ensure your pet has the appropriate tags to identify its owners, especially if the animal does escape its new home it may get lost trying to find its way back to you.

If you’re moving from overseas, it is especially important to thoroughly research the requirements for the animal to legally enter Singapore. Depending on your country of origin and your pet’s condition of health, a quarantine process may be necessary following your arrival. Your pet’s documentation must show that its vaccinations are in order and the animal may be required to have blood tests as well.

Don’t forget to take your pet’s medical records with you. Your new vet will need to evaluate your furry friend and they will be grateful for any extra information. If your pet needs medication, make sure you have enough for at least a week or two after the move so you have time to visit the veterinary clinic to fill the prescription.

Arranging Animal Transportation

You have two options if you’re moving internationally: fly with your cat or dog as excess baggage or hire the services of a Singapore pet relocation agent. Hiring a professional will make things so much easier as they will take care of all the paperwork and necessary arrangements. At Allied, we work with an experienced pet relocation specialist.

Before You Leave

One of your main tasks before the trip should be to ensure your pet is comfortable in their crate. Make sure you buy a crate that meets the airline’s specifications. In general, the container should have enough space for the animal to stand up, lie down and turn around comfortably. Don’t use the cage to discipline your pet; instead, turn it into a safe place in which they can relax. During the flight, they will appreciate familiar smells so don’t use clean blankets to line the crate.

Try To Remain Calm

Whether your move is local or international, you are likely to be under a lot of stress. Cats and dogs know their masters well and can sense human emotions. If you are finding it hard to cope with the anxiety of the moving process, it’s likely you’ll end up with an anxious pet. Try to stay calm and continue with your routine to reassure your pet and help make the transition to your new Singapore home much easier.
