What a Move to Long Beach Has to Offer

Long Beach is the second-largest city of the greater Los Angeles area and the seventh-largest city in California. A part of Los Angeles County, Long Beach contains the Port of Long Beach, one of the world's largest shipping ports and the country's second-busiest container port. The port supports 30,000 jobs in the city and 1.4 million jobs in the United States. Long Beach also features a large number of offshore and underground oil wells, which contribute to the job market associated with the city's large oil industry. The city is home to companies in the auto parts, aircraft, home furnishings and audiovisual manufacturing sectors.

Incorporated in 1897, what is now Long Beach was originally the property of ranches belonging to Spanish settlers. Eventually, the city became a seaside resort town. The port was established, and the U.S. Navy created a base there. In 1921, oil was discovered, and Long Beach became known as an oil town. Douglas Aircraft began making bombers in the city during World War II, and it merged with McDonnell Aircraft in 1967. The combined entity, McDonnell Douglas, merged with Boeing in 1997, and the new company still produces transport planes at the same location, employing roughly 4,200 people.

Long Beach is home to several major tourist attractions, including the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary, once the world's fastest ocean liner and now a hotel and museum. The city is also the location of the Long Beach Museum of Art, the Long Beach Museum of Latin American Art, the Long Beach Symphony and the Long Beach Opera company.

Long Beach is the site of California State University at Long Beach and Long Beach City College. The area is home to a number of hospitals and medical facilities, including Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, St. Mary Medical Center, Molina Healthcare and the VA Long Beach Healthcare System.

The driver and the crew went above and beyond. It was hot and they had to go up steps. The whole move couldn't have been better.

What our customers say

Allied Van Lines

We were very happy with the time, the professionalism and care taken with our stuff. One thing that we were disappointed with was the driver did not equally distribute the trip.

Jacob H  of  San Francisco, CA 4.9 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

They had open lines of communication, and did everything promptly. They showed up on time, and packed everything with no damage.

Lucas K  of  Livermore, CA 4.9 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

It was the attention that the people gave to everything. They responded to my question and made a effort to take care of everything. They were great and I have no complaints.

Merry B  of  Carmichael, CA 5 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

We were very happy with the move. I think there were too many people involved. I did not understand why we couldn't just work with the driver. He was great. I would recommend them, though.

Lisa S  of  Los Angeles, CA 4.8 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

The driver and his crew in the pick up location and the delivery location. The driver drove very good.

Lorraine S  of  San Diego, CA 4.8 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

Overall, the 2 men that came worked hard all day. they were fun to have around. It was a pleasure having them do what I asked. I enjoyed the flexibility and personality of the men who loved their job. It's challenging when they don't speak English. At times it was hard to find a person who did. They were amazing, courteous, and hardworking. Angela, was quick to respond to my questions.

Debra Y  of  Palo Alto, CA 4.9 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

Allied was professional and very nice. They did a good job. The driver was fabulous. The only issue I had was with Golden gate only because it took 15 hours to load the truck.

Barbara C  of  Orinda, CA 4.9 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

The fact they came out when they said would to load and unload. They stuck with price. They did break some items, but they paid for them but I would rather not have broken it at all.

Dan D  of  Laguna Hills, CA 4.4 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

The interaction with the people that prepared my goods was good & They preformed the move in a timely manner.

Corbin B  of  Huntington Beach, CA 5 Rating:

Allied Van Lines

The fact that SMH was able to get the move done on the day that I wanted it done. SMH has rules that were not appropriately communicated to us. Everything seems like it was a rush order. The coordination was complicated but they did everything on time.
