There is so much to love when it comes to moving to India. Whether you are moving to India for the first time or moving from the busy cities to the picturesque countryside, you’ll need to pack your belongings. As India’s best professional moving company, we know a thing or two about successfully relocating. Moving and packing can be simple if it is done wisely and methodically. So, get your boxes, bubble wraps, packing tapes, and old newspapers ready and follow our top 5 moving tips.

Declutter before Packing

It’s not uncommon to accumulate unneeded things over time. Moving presents the ideal reason to go through your belongings and decide what to keep. By decluttering before you pack, you’ll save time by only packing the important items. Create a list of the things you are leaving behind. You can either sell your belongings or donate them to charitable organisations. Do you really need that old table? If you bring your favourite armchairs, where are you going to put them in your new house?

Pack Early and In Categories

Getting started early on your packing can really make a difference. Not only will it make you less stressed, but it’ll also help you get organised. Before you start packing, we recommend breaking down your packing list into categories. Start by assigning a box to each room in your house and try not to mix items from different rooms. You should approach packing little by little, and begin with items you don’t use everyday. Label or colour-code your boxes so you know what is inside. Try not to mix items of different categories in one box as it may cause confusion later down the track. Assign a box for each room in your house to make unpacking easier and let you movers know which boxes belong where.

We recommend packing heavy items, such as books, in smaller boxes so they are easier to manage. After emptying your containers in the cupboards and fridge, you can wipe them clean and stack them on top of one another. Fit your silverware in containers where you can wrap fragile items with old newspaper or magazine pages. Secure the sides of your boxes with masking tape. Roads in India can be bumpy and the last thing you want is your valuables reaching your new home in pieces. Allied removals offer insurance against damages or loss, so it pays to go with an experienced Indian mover for your precious belongings.

Organise Your Essential Items

While packing, make sure to leave out your essential items. This also includes some precious and valuable belongings such as original documents (passport, birth certificate, etc) and expensive jewellery. Put them in a handbag or backpack, which you keep with you during the move. We also recommend having a bag of essentials with any required medicine, extra clothes, towels, and toilet paper. An overnight bag with your essentials will make a large difference when you are overwhelmed by the stress of the move. It’s also handy to keep some snacks and bottled water in an accessible bag for moving day.

Take Photos Before Dismantling

Take photos before you dismantle and pack any furniture and electronics. Having a visual example of how to connect your television and assemble your bookcase, will be extremely helpful when moving into your new home. It’s easy to be confused by the leads, cords and screws.
