Securing your Visa

There are different types of Australian visas to go for:
• Work/Employer Visa – This type of visa is given if an Australian company is willing to sponsor you for employment purposes. This can be converted to an application for permanent residency after completing 2 years of working for the same employer.
• Family Visa – This may include your partners or children born overseas to permanent residents of Australia.
• Short-Term Visa – This visa is granted to those who want to live and work on a short-term basis. This includes Visitor Visa (3-12 months), Bridging Visa, Transit Visa, Electronic Travel Authority (available for certain countries/locations/regions only), eVisitor Visa, and Work Holiday Visa

You can check other visa options at the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.
Acquiring an Australian visa can be a complex process. Consulting a MARA or (Migration Agents Registration Authority) registered agent can provide you with the proper information. Australian immigration also requires a declaration of money amounting to at least AUD$10,000 or its equivalent. You may also need to fulfil an English language test.

Take note: Agents will not guarantee the approval of your application. They will only guide you with everything you need know regarding your visa application.

Securing a Job

Firstly, make sure your visa is eligible for work if you plan on looking for employment in Australia.
If you are working with construction, manufacturing, IT, healthcare or education, you might be lucky enough to land a high-paying job in Australia as these industries are often in demand.

There are a lot of Australian job sites you can check. Some of them are Seek, Adzuna, and Career One. Alternatively, you can also check newspapers or local bulletins for classifieds.

It is important to know that workers in Australia are required to pay taxes. You’ll need to apply for your Tax File Number or TFN from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Securing your Accommodation

When you’re looking for a place to live, ask yourself:
1. Is it a good neighbourhood?
2. Is the suburb close to schools and public transport?
3. Are you living near your workplace or will you need to drive or catch a bus, train, tram or ferry?
4. Is the price worth the rent?
5. Is the residence easily accessible to grocery stores, parks and other amenities?

Securing your Children’s Education

Australia has a high standard of education, whereby public schools are almost free to attend. The academic year starts at the end of January, start of February and ends in late November, early December. Expats need to apply directly to the schools, ensuring that the student’s documents are readily on-hand. There are private schools that follow the International Baccalaureate program and the capital cities do house some international schools and communities.
