Allied Van Lines: The Best of Newark Moving Companies

Perched on the northwest tip of Delaware, Newark is an education-driven, bicycle-friendly town with a welcoming community. Newark was founded by Scottish-Irish settlers in 1694, and has since maintained a long history of academics as its centerpiece. The first grammar school opened in the 1700s, with a list of graduates including three signers of the Declaration of Independence, including George Read, Thomas McKean and James Smith. Today, the city is home to University of Delaware.

While Newark had a population of approximately 32,000 as of the 2012 U.S. Census, the university contributes roughly 22,000 students and plenty of teachers. In fact, the vast majority of residents are employed in educational services.

The city experiences a four-season climate, which provides a wide variety of activities in the state parks in the area. During the summer, temperatures reach high-80s and in the winter, lows fall to the mid-20s. In the colder months, there is an average snowfall of around three inches.

Activities and attractions in Newark

Newark has a refreshing mix of outdoor recreation, historic downtown opportunities and college sports. Step out into the wild at White Clay Creek State Park, Glasgow Park or Iron Hill Park.

To shop, wine and dine, the downtown’s Main Street offers excellent stores and restaurants. In 2011, the city was honored with the “Great Main Street Award” by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

As locals will tell you, the best way to get around town is by bicycle. A handful of streets have sharrows, bicycle symbols placed on the pavement to help motorists and cyclists safely share the street. So, expect to see lots of cyclists on the roads!

Since the college campus infuses much of the town spirit, be sure to catch a Fightin’ Blue Hens football game at Delaware Stadium. If you want to see a play, REP Theater has cheap, quality performances.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY...

They did everything they said they would do. The crew was fast, pleasant to work with. The driver was great and they were all great people to work with. We had two destination deliveries. We had a condo and an office/storage space. The smaller portion of the load went to the condo first. The main issue is that it was not all going to the same place.
